Black tourmaline can be an exceptionally challenging stone to tumble. In its raw form, it can be quite delicate and brittle fracturing with little effort. If you aren’t able to see the fracture lines in a tumbled or polished black tourmaline product, it is a good indicator that the stone has likely been stabilized by the addition of a stone sealer or resin. Our tumbled tourmaline stones are untreated, and with this in mind small flaws such as cracks and chips are very common and widespread in this material. Yet the material is beautiful, and the imperfections are truly appreciated knowing the stones are kept in their more natural state.
