Some of the most stunning and beautiful natural citrine in the world comes from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Sadly this is an area that is very difficult to get things out of. Conflict, corruption, and economic inequalities are much higher in the DRC than most other places. Therefore we only work with individuals affiliated with worker owner cooperatives that can safely mine and transport this material outside of the region. While the quality of citrine is outstanding and is some of the finest in the world, damage to crystals is quite common. This is because the remote areas where the mining takes place is largely inaccessible and the crystals are put into bags on motorbikes where the ride is rough to say the least to the nearest paved road. Therefore getting any raw material that is highly intact is extremely rare. Yet despite some of the flaws and challenges, these are still some of the most amazing natural crystals you will ever encounter. By supporting the workers in the DRC it increases the resources for the cooperative to continue to improve the quality of life of those in the mining industry.
