While not the best grade labradorite we carry, this is an unusual and rare variety out of Madagascar that produces a primarily orange-gold flash. Other colors may be encountered to a lesser degree. The flash isn’t as obvious with this variety and takes some time to play with in the right light to see the colors. Yet still very nice material that isn't commonly encountered and is produced in limited quantities. The vast majority of the higher grade stones that are mined tend to go toward production of polished items like points, spheres, cabs, and free forms. However with the right lapidary tools these stones still hold lots of potential. At first glance, these labradorite stones may appear to be just ordinary grey rocks. However upon looking closer at the right angle in the light you will notice a flash and iridescence coming off these stones making them far different than other common rocks. While not every angle produces flash, the fascinating thing about labradorite is that light has to hit the stone at the right angle to produce the colorful rainbow effect known as labradorescence. This makes labradorite one of the most interesting crystals to hold and observe.
