Most of the crystal trade uses "ethical sourcing" as a soft claim you can't verify. We built Beyond Ethical™ to be something you can.

It's not a marketing phrase. It's the framework we actually run the business by.

Every supplier we work with is personally vetted on two points:

• Operate in compliance with local regulations, including mining permits, environmental protections, and labor laws
• Go beyond compliance by actively supporting their workers, communities, and surrounding ecosystems

We intentionally seek out partners who prioritize long-term sustainability over short-term profit. That means many products commonly found in the crystal market never make it into our inventory.

Every crystal we carry is natural and authentic. We do not sell lab-created or synthetic stones. When treatments such as heat, irradiation, or surface enhancement are known or disclosed by our suppliers, we note them clearly on the product listing. Because real transparency means telling you what we know, not just what sounds reassuring.

Transparency matters to us because trust matters. We choose the harder path when it aligns with our values, even when it limits availability or profit.

How We Got Here

The roots of Beyond Bohemian started back in 2015 as a rockhounding and personal collecting passion for our founder, Paul Oliver, while he was pursuing a graduate degree in psychology. What began as weekends in the field and an Etsy shop side hustle turned into years of learning the stones, the people behind them, and the uncomfortable truths about how most of them get to market.

Through that time in the industry, Paul witnessed a growing disconnect between the peaceful image crystals are often wrapped in and the realities behind the scenes. Gem shows, supplier relationships, and loosely worded ethical claims revealed patterns that felt deeply misaligned with the values many customers believed they were supporting.

With a background in psychology and a sharp eye for inconsistencies, Paul recognized a need for real accountability.

In 2020, Beyond Bohemian was formally founded as a business, built around two core commitments:

• To guarantee ethical origins by building direct relationships with mines, lapidaries, and small producers

• To practice radical transparency by openly sharing what we know about where our crystals come from

Over the years, Paul built long-standing relationships with a very small group of suppliers, fewer than can be counted on hands and feet. These relationships are the backbone of everything we do.

Beyond Bohemian has grown by staying intentionally small. Direct ethical sourcing relationships require time, higher minimums, and the willingness to walk away from inventory that doesn't clear the bar. We keep the supplier list tight on purpose.

Today, we serve retail customers who want to understand what they're buying and where it came from. A small, established wholesale network supports conscious retailers who hold the same standards we do.
