Common questions
What crystals are best for the root chakra?
Black tourmaline, red jasper, garnet, hematite, smoky quartz, bloodstone and agate are the seven that come up most. The common thread is color and weight: red, black and deep brown stones, and denser material than you'd choose for the upper chakras.
How do I know if my root chakra is blocked?
The traditional description covers feeling unsettled about basics like money, home and safety, restlessness or trouble staying with something, feeling slightly outside your own body, and tension held low through the lower back, hips and legs. It's a framework for describing experience rather than a diagnosis, so anything persistent and physical is worth taking to a doctor.
How do you unblock the root chakra?
Get physically low and grounded with bare feet on the floor or sitting on the ground. Place a stone at the base of the spine or between the feet while lying down. Carry one piece and actually touch it during the day. Work with the color red more generally. Regularity matters more than technique.
What color is the root chakra?
Red. Muladhara is the first of the seven, sits at the base of the spine, and is tied to the earth element and the color red. That color association is why the stones paired with it are mostly red, black and deep brown.
Where do you place root chakra stones?
At the base of the spine while lying down is the most common placement, with the tailbone or between the feet the two usual positions. Outside of a session, a pocket beats a shelf. Some people also keep a larger piece where they spend the most sitting time, near a desk or a favorite chair.
Is your smoky quartz natural or irradiated?
We carry natural smoky quartz and label it as such. Natural smoky quartz takes its color from radiation in the ground over very long timescales. A good deal of the very dark, very uniform material sold cheaply was irradiated in a lab to get there. That's a legitimate treatment when it's disclosed, and a problem when it isn't.
