These are AA-grade Fire Quartz tumbled stones from Alaotra-Mangoro, Madagascar, sold by the piece or by the pound. Fire quartz is clear quartz shot through with red and gold hematite inclusions, giving each stone flame-like internal patterning. Each piece runs 1.25-2 inches at Mohs 7, sourced through a community partnership. A favorite grounding stone for desks.
Fire quartz is clear or smoky quartz threaded with hematite inclusions that look like flame or streaks of rust inside the crystal. The inclusions make every piece different.
Hand-selected from Alaotra-Mangoro, Madagascar. Worth knowing: a lot of the fire quartz on the market is heat-treated. What we carry is natural and untreated.

Fire Quartz sits at 7 on the Mohs scale, harder than a steel blade, so it handles daily carry and a quick rinse without fuss. Keep chemical cleaners away from it; they can etch the surface.

Each piece measures 1.25 to 2 inches on its longest side and weighs 20 to 40 grams. About 16 to 24 pieces per pound at this size, and each option shows its piece count.
AA grade indicates rich hematite inclusions with strong color contrast, a good tumble polish, and minimal surface fractures. At this larger size, the internal patterning is clearly visible. Grades reflect visual quality within a batch. A is standard, with typical inclusions. AA shows stronger color, cleaner surfaces and tighter sizing. AAA is the top 10 to 15 percent of a batch. Every lot is inspected and graded by our team in Rockville, Maryland, not taken on the supplier’s word.
