Bloodstone, also called heliotrope, is dark green chalcedony spotted with red hematite that looks like drops of blood, and most of it comes from the Deccan Traps of India. It's sold tumbled, as palm stones and carved.

Before You Buy Bloodstone
How much red will it have?
It varies. The red and orange spots are iron oxide, scattered unevenly through the dark green, so some stones show many and others only a few. The same green chalcedony without spots is sold as plasma.
Is it the same as dragon bloodstone?
No. Dragon bloodstone is a trade name for a different rock, green epidote with red patches. Bloodstone, also called heliotrope, is dark green chalcedony with small red spots.
Care
At 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale it handles everyday carry. Clean it with warm, soapy water and a soft brush, dry it with a soft cloth, and keep it away from harsh chemicals and high heat.
