Best crystals for abundance

Almost everything in this collection is green, and that's no accident. Green is the color the prosperity tradition has always reached for, the color of growth, of spring, of things coming back. Six stones carry most of it.

1. Emerald. Ours comes from Zimbabwe as emerald in matrix, raw green crystals still seated in the dark host rock they grew in. Emerald has been the wealth stone since antiquity, mined in Egypt for royalty more than two thousand years ago.
2. Green aventurine. Quartz carrying tiny plates of green mica, which is where the soft glitter comes from. The most affordable stone here and the one most often called the money stone outright.
3. Peridot. One of the few gemstones that only comes in one color. Ours is from Arizona, where it weathers out of volcanic rock.
4. Ametrine. Amethyst and citrine sharing a single crystal, purple shading into gold. Nearly all of it on earth comes from one region of Bolivia.
5. Tiger eye. South African, golden brown, with a silky band of reflected light that travels as the stone moves. In the money tradition it's the holding stone, the one for keeping what you've earned.
6. Chrysoprase. Apple green chalcedony, colored by nickel rather than the usual iron. The smallest group in the collection.

Crystals for abundance and luck

These two searches overlap almost completely, and a few stones do double duty. Green aventurine is the big one, so tied to games of chance that older books call it the gambler's stone, and it anchors our luck collection as well as this page. Tiger eye leans the other way, toward the career end of prosperity, the slow kind built on work. How to use abundance crystals

• Keep one where money decisions actually happen. The desk, the spot where you pay bills, beside the laptop.
• A tumbled aventurine is small enough for a coat pocket or a bag, which is how most people end up carrying theirs.
• Write the specific goal down and set the stone on the paper. The tradition treats these stones as reminders, and reminders work best tied to something concrete.
• Pick it up when you notice it. The noticing is the point.

Choosing your first abundance stone

Start with green aventurine. It costs little, it shrugs off pocket carry at 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale, and it comes in every form from raw chunks to polished tumbles. The emerald in matrix specimens are the step up, more mineral collection than pocket stone. Either way, a piece you like the look of will earn its spot on the desk. One bought only for the meaning tends to end up in a drawer.

Why abundance stones are green

The color association is older than paper money. Green meant growing crops and a returning spring long before it meant currency, and the prosperity stones simply follow the color. What's interesting is that each of these greens has a different cause. Emerald is beryl colored by chromium, peridot gets its olive tone from iron, and chrysoprase owes its apple green to nickel. Same shade of meaning, three different bits of chemistry.
