About This Emerald

Emerald is green beryl, and rough emerald doesn't always look like the jewelry store version. Our pieces are natural, unpolished or lightly shaped, showing the crystal form and the internal inclusions that come with the stone.

Sourced directly from Midlands Province, Zimbabwe. Worth knowing: a lot of the emerald on the market is stabilized. What we carry is natural and untreated.

Is this real emerald, and is it heated, dyed or treated?

Natural emerald from Midlands Province, Zimbabwe. Faceted gem-grade emerald is almost always oil-treated to reduce the visibility of inclusions. These are matrix palm stones, not faceted gems, and are not oiled. They are polished natural stone.

Will I get the exact pieces in the photos?

You'll receive pieces from the same batch photographed, weighed to the amount you choose. Every piece passes our quality control and meets or exceeds what you see in the photos. Single specimens are listed separately and say so.

What size are the pieces?

Each piece measures 2 to 3.5 inches on its longest side and weighs 50 to 100 medium.

What does AA grade mean?

Grade AA. Visible emerald crystals in host rock, smooth hand polish, palm-sized. Grades reflect visual quality within a batch. A is standard, with typical inclusions. AA shows stronger color, cleaner surfaces and tighter sizing. AAA is the top 10 to 15 percent of a batch. Every lot is inspected and graded by our team in Rockville, Maryland, not taken on the supplier’s word.
