This is an AAA-grade raw Black Tourmaline specimen from Vakinankaratra, Madagascar. Iron gives schorl its opaque black color, and this piece shows the clean prism faces and vertical striations of natural tourmaline. It measures 1.72 x 1.54 x 2.22 inches and weighs 126 grams at Mohs 7-7.5, fully natural and untreated. A favorite grounding stone.

Black tourmaline is schorl, the iron-rich member of the tourmaline group. Iron saturates the crystal to an opaque, light-absorbing black. This is a raw specimen: a natural crystal with the deep vertical striations that mark true tourmaline growth, heavier in hand than quartz of the same size.
