Malachite is green in concentric rings and bands, sometimes bullseye patterns, sometimes sweeping stripes. The color is the color of oxidized copper because that's exactly what it is. It polishes to a mirror shine.
Sourced directly from Haut-Katanga, Democratic Republic of the Congo. At 3.5-4 on the Mohs scale, it's on the softer end. Keep it away from water and store it separately from harder pieces. Worth knowing: a lot of the malachite on the market is stabilized and sold as imitation. What we carry is natural and untreated.
Used extensively in ancient Egypt for eye cosmetics.
In crystal traditions, malachite is often associated with working through difficult feelings at your own pace, a sense of groundedness when things feel uncertain, and clarifying what you actually want.
