These are AA-grade Malachite hand polished stones from Haut-Katanga, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Malachite is a copper carbonate hydroxide with concentric green banding formed by botryoidal growth in oxidized copper deposits. Each piece runs 1.25-2 inches at Mohs 3.5-4, sourced through a community partnership. A favorite protection stone for display shelves.
Malachite is green in concentric rings and bands, sometimes bullseye patterns, sometimes sweeping stripes. The color is the color of oxidized copper because that's exactly what it is. It polishes to a mirror shine.
Sourced directly from Haut-Katanga, Democratic Republic of the Congo. At 3.5-4 on the Mohs scale, it's on the softer end. Keep it away from water and store it separately from harder pieces. Worth knowing: a lot of the malachite on the market is stabilized and sold as imitation. What we carry is natural and untreated.
