These are AAA-grade Black Tourmaline raw crystals from Vakinankaratra, Madagascar, sold by the piece or by the pound. Iron gives schorl its opaque black color, and AAA pieces show clean, well-defined prism faces. Each piece runs 1.25-1.75 inches at Mohs 7-7.5, fully natural and untreated. A favorite stress relief stone for bedside tables.
Black tourmaline is dense, heavy for its size, and so dark it reads almost architectural. Run your fingernail along a good piece and you'll feel the vertical striations that tell you the crystal grew straight up out of the rock. This piece runs 1.25 to 1.75 inches, roughly 40 to 60 grams, our biggest and most striking Madagascar pieces.
