Third eye chakra stones list

The third eye chakra, Ajna in Sanskrit, is the sixth of the seven, sitting between the brows. Its color is indigo, its element light in most modern tellings, and this is the most purple shelf in the shop.

1. Amethyst. The largest group here by a wide margin, led by polished geodes from Uruguay, where the crystals grow small, dark and dense inside pockets of basalt.
2. Lepidolite. A lilac mica from Brazil, naturally rich in lithium, that splits into glittering layers. At 2.5 to 3.5 it's the softest stone on this page.
3. Labradorite. Gray until it catches the light, then blue and gold fire from inside. Ours comes from Madagascar, and no two pieces flash alike.
4. Fluorite. Purple and green stacked in bands like weather layers, from Brazil. It sits at 4 and should stay dry.
5. Chevron amethyst. Amethyst layered with white quartz in sharp V patterns, from Zambia. Each chevron records a pause and a restart in the crystal's growth.
6. Smoky amethyst. Purple and smoky brown sharing one crystal, from Namibia. The purple comes from iron, the smoke from aluminum, both set off by natural radiation underground.

Third eye chakra blocked symptoms

Where the throat chakra is about being heard, Ajna is about seeing clearly, and the tradition describes its unsettled state as a kind of fog.

• Thinking in circles at 11pm without landing anywhere.
• Dreams that thin out to nothing before your feet reach the floor.
• Overruling a first read on a person or a plan, then learning months later it was right.
• Trouble picturing next year, or even next month, in any detail.

Recurring headaches or eye strain sit outside the tradition's territory. That's an appointment worth making.

How to unblock the third eye chakra

Ajna's practices are quiet ones. Nothing here needs to be said out loud.

1. Sit in a dim, quiet room for ten minutes with your eyes closed and let your attention rest gently at the point between your brows. When it wanders, walk it back without commentary.
2. Lie down and place a small flat stone, a tumbled amethyst works well, between the brows for five to ten minutes.
3. Keep a tumbled stone on the nightstand and hold it while you write down whatever you dreamed, even fragments. Recall builds with attention.
4. Bring indigo into the wind-down hour, the blanket you read under, the notebook kept by the bed.

Pisces, the zodiac's dreamer, is the sign most often given this chakra, with far-sighted Sagittarius and pattern-minded Aquarius alongside. The Pisces collection leans purple for exactly this reason. One step down the ladder is the throat chakra, and one step up, the last step there is, the crown.

Choosing between raw, tumbled and polished

A polished Uruguayan geode gives you both finishes in one object, cut and shined on the face, raw rock behind. Tumbled amethyst is the affordable pocket option and shrugs off daily carry at 6.5 to 7. Labradorite is a stone to buy polished, since the flash inside only opens up on a finished face. Lepidolite is the opposite case, too soft to tumble well, so it's usually sold as natural specimens. Fluorite takes a lovely polish but should be stored apart from harder stones and kept dry.
