These are AA-grade Ocean Jasper raw crystals from Sofia, Madagascar. Ocean Jasper is a silica-rich chalcedony with orbicular eye patterns, mined only in Madagascar. Each rough piece runs 1-2 inches at Mohs 6.5-7, untreated with natural orbicular patterning. A favorite stress relief stone for pockets.
Ocean Jasper is a member of the Chalcedony family (a quartz variety) with a Mohs hardness of 6.5 to 7. It's a modern trade name, not a formal geologic term, popularized for orbicular silicified rhyolite from a single coastal deposit in northwest Madagascar, accessible only by sea at low tide.
Jasper, agate, and chalcedony are all microcrystalline quartz; jasper is typically the opaque variety. The orbicular patterns form from silica-rich solutions filling cavities in volcanic rocks, with concentric layers building outward over time.
The original ocean jasper mine has been worked out for years. Newer material comes from a secondary deposit nearby.
Ocean Jasper is traditionally associated with joy, emotional healing, and steady love. Long held to support a softer heart and gentler self-talk.
Many people work with this stone for moving through difficult feelings at their own pace and opening to connection, with themselves and others. Hold one over your chest for a few breaths when you need to soften.

Ocean Jasper sits at 6.5-7 on the Mohs scale, about as hard as glass, so it handles daily use but will scratch against harder stones. Keep chemical cleaners away from it; they can etch the surface.

Each piece measures 1 to 2 inches on its longest side and weighs 20 to 50 grams. About 12 to 20 pieces per pound at this size, and each option shows its piece count.
Grade AA. Clear orb patterning and good color contrast across the face of the stone. Grades reflect visual quality within a batch. A is standard, with typical inclusions. AA shows stronger color, cleaner surfaces and tighter sizing. AAA is the top 10 to 15 percent of a batch. Every lot is inspected and graded by our team in Rockville, Maryland, not taken on the supplier’s word.
