This is an AA-grade Malachite polished stone specimen from Haut-Katanga, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Malachite's concentric green eyes and bands record botryoidal growth, layer by layer, in an oxidized copper deposit. The piece measures 4.38 x 3.64 x 1.81 inches at Mohs 3.5-4, sourced through a community partnership. A favorite protection stone for collectors.
Malachite is green in concentric rings and bands, sometimes bullseye patterns, sometimes sweeping stripes. The color is the color of oxidized copper because that's exactly what it is. It polishes to a mirror shine.
We bring these specimens in from Haut-Katanga, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Worth knowing: a lot of the malachite on the market is stabilized and sold as imitation. What we carry is natural and untreated.
This is a softer mineral (3.5-4 Mohs). Dry storage, gentle handling, and don't let it knock around with quartz or tourmaline.
