What crystals are best for Gemini?

Gemini is an air sign ruled by Mercury, the planet of language and quick connections, and its stones sit at the pale blue end of the shelf. Air favors the light, the banded and the two-toned. The twins favor anything that's two things at once.

1. Blue lace agate. Banded powder blue chalcedony from Malawi. The bands build up as silica settles layer by layer inside gas pockets in volcanic rock, so no two slices read the same.

5. Dendritic agate. Milky chalcedony from Madagascar holding fern-shaped traces of iron and manganese. The ferns are mineral growths, not fossils, though everyone assumes otherwise.
6. Cactus spirit quartz. A central crystal overgrown with a jacket of tiny sparkling points, lilac to white. One stone that reads as a crowd, which suits the most social sign in the zodiac.

What is the Gemini birthstone?

Gemini runs from roughly May 21 to June 20 and crosses a month boundary, so the answer depends on the birthday.

• June, which covers most of the sign, gives you three: pearl, moonstone and alexandrite.
• May is emerald, for Geminis born in the season's first ten or so days.
• The traditional zodiac stone is agate, a separate and older list, and the reason blue lace agate anchors this collection.

Gemini crystals to avoid
