These are AA-grade Mookaite raw stones from Western Australia, sold by the piece or by the pound. Mookaite is an Australian radiolarite formed from microscopic marine fossils, in mustard, burgundy, and cream. Each piece runs 1-2 inches, bought directly at the source. A favorite grounding stone for desks and entryways.
Mookaite Jasper is most commonly classified as Chalcedony (Quartz variety) / Silicate (Tectosilicate). It's typically seen in red, yellow, brown tones. Crystal system: Trigonal (Quartz; cryptocrystalline). On the Mohs scale it generally falls around 6.5-7. Chemical formula commonly cited: SiO₂ (microcrystalline quartz).
It typically forms in Silica-rich fluids fill cavities/veins forming nodules and bands. Common commercial sources include Australia. Material is most often obtained through Quarried/mined from nodules/veins; cut from host rock.
Standard mineral/variety name; trade names vary mainly by color/pattern. "Mookaite" is an Australian trade name tied to Mooka Creek; widely used in lapidary for its earthy color palette. Common confusions on the market include Jasper vs agate/chalcedony: all microcrystalline quartz; "jasper" is typically opaque.
