These are Elite-grade Type I Shungite raw stones from the Republic of Karelia, Russia, sold by the piece or by the pound. Elite Shungite is the rare high-carbon form of this Karelian rock, breaking with a silvery metallic sheen. Each piece runs 0.50-1 inch at Mohs 2, fully natural and untreated. A favorite protection stone for entryways.
Shungite is matte black, carbon-rich, and heavier than it looks. Russian in origin, it's been used as a water filter and a talisman for centuries. Elite shungite has a silvery sheen, regular shungite is more matte.
These raw pieces come from Republic of Karélia, Russia. It's soft (Mohs 2), so handle it with a little care, keep it dry, and store it in its own pouch so harder stones don't scratch it.
