Almost exclusively in the Republic of Karelia in northwestern Russia. The main commercial mine sits near Zazhoginskoye, and the deposit has been worked since the early industrial era.

Is shungite ever fake?

Yes. Lower-cost imitations are sometimes carved from anthracite coal, jet, or basic black resin. Real shungite is brittle, lightweight for its size, and leaves a faint grey mark on unglazed ceramic.

How do I clean a pyramid?

Dry cloth only. Don't soak shungite or run it under hot water for extended periods, since the carbon-rich structure can soften with prolonged exposure.

What do people work with shungite pyramids for?
