These are regular-grade (Type III) Shungite polished pyramids from the Republic of Karelia, Russia. The pyramid is a modern display cut; the material is Karelia's carbon-rich black stone, hand-finished to a satin matte. Each pyramid runs about 4 x 4 x 2.75 inches at Mohs 2, fully natural and untreated. A favorite protection stone for meditation spaces.
Shungite is matte black, carbon-rich, and heavier than it looks. Russian in origin, it's been used as a water filter and a talisman for centuries. Elite shungite has a silvery sheen, regular shungite is more matte. Black color and ancient origin.
This piece comes from Republic of Karélia, Russia. This is a softer mineral (2 Mohs). Dry storage, gentle handling, and don't let it knock around with quartz or tourmaline.
In the tradition, shungite shows up most often around a sense of groundedness when things feel uncertain, cleansing, and staying connected to your body and the moment. It's traditionally linked to the root chakra. If that resonates, hold one in your non-dominant hand for a few breaths when things feel shaky. Trust what feels useful and leave the rest.
These are traditional associations drawn from historical practice. This stone is not a substitute for medical or mental health care.
A starting place for your own quiet practice.
