These are AA-grade Black Tourmaline raw crystals from Minas Gerais, Brazil, sold by the piece or by the pound. Black Tourmaline, or schorl, is the iron-rich tourmaline, opaque black with lengthwise striations. Each piece runs 0.75-1.50 inches at Mohs 7-7.5, fully natural and untreated. A favorite protection stone for entryways.

Black tourmaline is dense, heavy for its size, and so dark it reads almost architectural. Run your fingernail along a good piece and you'll feel the vertical striations that tell you the crystal grew straight up out of the rock.
