These are A-grade Black Tourmaline raw crystals from Mashonaland West, Zimbabwe, sold by the piece or by the pound. Schorl's name comes from a German tin-mining town, where the black crystals were once tossed aside as waste before their own value was recognized. Each piece runs 1-1.50 inches at Mohs 7-7.5, fully natural and untreated. A favorite cleansing stone for entryway bowls.
Black tourmaline is dense, heavy for its size, and so dark it reads almost architectural. Run your fingernail along a good piece and you'll feel the vertical striations that tell you the crystal grew straight up out of the rock. This piece runs 1 to 1.50 inches, roughly 20 to 40 grams.
