These are A-grade Amethyst raw crystal cabochons from Artigas, Uruguay. A cabochon carries one domed, polished face over natural rough, a cut that concentrates the purple color of this quartz variety. Each piece runs 0.75-1.50 inches at Mohs 7, bought directly at the source. A favorite intuition stone for gifting and collectors.
Amethyst has the kind of purple that draws you in without trying. Some pieces are pale lavender, others are deep violet, and the best ones catch light through the crystal structure so they seem to glow from the inside.
From Greek 'a-methystos' meaning 'not drunk', ancient Greeks believed amethyst prevented intoxication and carved drinking vessels from it.
Our cabochons are sourced from Artigas, Uruguay. Worth knowing: a lot of the amethyst on the market is heat-treated and irradiated. What we carry is natural and untreated.

Amethyst sits at 7 on the Mohs scale, harder than a steel blade, so it handles daily carry and a quick rinse without fuss. The one thing that hurts it is sunlight: months in a bright window will fade the color, and it does not come back.
