About This Black Tourmaline in Quartz

This is tourmalinated quartz: black schorl tourmaline that grew inside a quartz matrix rather than beside it. The two minerals are locked together.

The blades run in every direction through the block. Cut it anywhere and you get a cross-section through that tangle, which is why no two faces match and why the pattern looks drawn on.

These vases are cut and hollowed from solid blocks sourced in Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Traditionally Used For

Black tourmaline is the protection stone people reach for most, traditionally worked with for grounding and for putting a boundary around a space. Held in quartz, it is often described as protection with the volume of quartz behind it. It is linked to the root chakra.

If that resonates, the traditional placement is by the door, where the house meets everything else.

These are traditional associations drawn from historical practice. This stone is not a substitute for medical or mental health care.

Care and Use

Sensitivity Low

Black Tourmaline in Quartz sits at 7-7.5 on the Mohs scale, harder than a steel blade, so it handles daily carry and a quick rinse without fuss. Keep chemical cleaners away from it; they can etch the surface.
