These are A-grade Carnelian raw stones from Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, sold by the piece or by the pound. Carnelian belongs to the chalcedony family; iron oxide builds its color from warm orange to deep red. Each piece runs 0.25-0.75 inches at Mohs 6.5-7, sourced through a community partnership. A favorite creativity stone for crystal grids.
Carnelian runs from soft amber to deep brick-red, with bands or zones of color that shift across each stone. Held to light, the warmer pieces glow like a banked fire.
Hand-selected from Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Carnelian is a variety of chalcedony, a microcrystalline form of quartz. The color comes from iron oxide impurities. It has been worked with by jewelers and craftspeople for thousands of years.
Carnelian is traditionally worked with for creativity, courage, and a sense of warmth and forward motion. It's linked to the sacral and root chakras. Many people keep a piece on a desk during creative work, or carry one when they need a steady reminder to start.

Carnelian sits at 6.5-7 on the Mohs scale, about as hard as glass, so it handles daily use but will scratch against harder stones. The one thing that hurts it is sunlight: months in a bright window will fade the color, and it does not come back.
