These are A-grade Petrified Wood crystal chips from Mahajanga, Madagascar, sold by the piece or by the pound. Petrified wood is fossilized tree material, and even at chip size the original grain often shows in the surface pattern. Each chip runs 0.25-0.50 inches at Mohs 6.5-7, fully natural and untreated. A favorite meditation stone for crystal grids.

Madagascar's petrified forests date back over 200 million years and are among the most significant fossil wood deposits on earth.
In the tradition, Petrified Wood shows up most often around grounding, patience, and a sense of deep continuity. It's traditionally linked to the Root and Sacral chakras. Petrified Wood sits at 6.5–7 on the Mohs scale, about as hard as glass, so it handles daily use but will scratch against harder stones. Keep chemical cleaners away from it; they can etch the surface.

Each piece measures 0.25 to 0.5 inches on its longest side and weighs 0.25 to 1 grams. About 400 to 800 pieces per pound at this size, and each option shows its piece count.
Grade A polished chips, sold by weight. Wood grain pattern visible on most pieces. Grades reflect visual quality within a batch. A is standard, with typical inclusions. AA shows stronger color, cleaner surfaces and tighter sizing. AAA is the top 10 to 15 percent of a batch. Every lot is inspected and graded by our team in Rockville, Maryland, not taken on the supplier’s word.
