These are A-grade Red Jasper polished crystal chips from Northern Cape, South Africa, sold by the piece or by the pound. Jasper is opaque microcrystalline quartz; hematite gives this variety its brick-red body. Each chip runs 0.25-0.50 inch at Mohs 7, bought directly at the source. A favorite protection stone for crystal grids.
Red jasper is a deep brick-red chalcedony, sometimes with dark matrix veins running through it. It's opaque, evenly colored, and takes a polish that reads almost like glass.
