About This Howlite

Howlite reads like white marble shot through with gray veins that almost look like ink drawn across the surface. It's chalky, cool to the touch, and soft enough that you want to handle it with a little care. Howlite was named for Henry How, the Nova Scotia mineralogist who first described it in 1868.

This piece comes from Minas Gerais, Brazil. This is a softer mineral (3.5 Mohs). Dry storage, gentle handling, and don't let it knock around with quartz or tourmaline.

Traditionally Used For

Howlite has long been used in practices around quiet, steady calm, winding down and settling into rest, and a simple anchor during practice. It's traditionally linked to the crown chakra. If that resonates, place it at the top of an altar or on a nightstand. There's no single right way to carry it.

Natural howlite from Minas Gerais, Brazil. Untreated and undyed. Howlite is often dyed blue and sold as turquoise; ours is natural white and gray.
