These are A-grade Smoky Amethyst raw crystal points from Masvingo, Zimbabwe, sold by the piece or by the pound. Smoky Amethyst is quartz showing both smoky gray-brown and amethyst purple zoning within a single crystal. Each point runs 0.50-1.50 inches at Mohs 7, sourced through our artisan network. A favorite grounding stone for meditation spaces.
Smoky Amethyst is part of the quartz family. From Greek 'a-methystos' meaning 'not drunk', ancient Greeks believed amethyst prevented intoxication and carved drinking vessels from it.
Sourced directly from Masvingo, Zimbabwe. Worth knowing: a lot of the smoky amethyst on the market is heat-treated and irradiated. What we carry is natural and untreated.
Smoky amethyst has long been used in practices around staying connected to your body and the moment, quiet, steady calm, and a sense of groundedness when things feel uncertain. It's traditionally linked to the root and third eye chakras. If that resonates, set one on the floor near where you sit to read or work. There's no single right way to carry it.

Smoky Amethyst sits at 7 on the Mohs scale, harder than a steel blade, so it handles daily carry and a quick rinse without fuss. The one thing that hurts it is sunlight: months in a bright window will fade the color, and it does not come back.
Natural smoky amethyst from Masvingo, Zimbabwe. Untreated. Color is natural and comes from a combination of trace iron and natural ionizing radiation in the rock during growth.

Each piece measures 0.5 to 1.5 inches on its longest side and weighs 2 to 10 grams. About 48 to 96 pieces per pound at this size, and each option shows its piece count.
Grade A. Visible color zoning between smoky and purple, natural raw points with some surface texture. Grades reflect visual quality within a batch. A is standard, with typical inclusions. AA shows stronger color, cleaner surfaces and tighter sizing. AAA is the top 10 to 15 percent of a batch. Every lot is inspected and graded by our team in Rockville, Maryland, not taken on the supplier’s word.
