These are AA-grade Smoky Quartz palm stones from Alaotra-Mangoro, Madagascar. Smoky Quartz is the brown-gray quartz variety, colored by natural radiation interacting with aluminum traces. Each hand-polished piece runs 1.50-3 inches at Mohs 7, sourced through a community partnership. A favorite stress relief stone for meditation spaces.
Smoky quartz is transparent brown-to-gray quartz, the color coming from natural irradiation deep in the earth. Good pieces feel cool and heavy in the hand, and the darker smoky points almost look like they're holding shadow.
This piece comes from Alaotra-Mangoro, Madagascar. Worth knowing: a lot of the smoky quartz on the market is irradiated. What we carry is natural and untreated.
Smoky quartz has long been used in practices around staying connected to your body and the moment, a sense of groundedness when things feel uncertain, and quiet, steady calm. It's traditionally linked to the root chakra. If that resonates, hold one in your non-dominant hand for a few breaths when things feel shaky. There's no single right way to carry it.

Smoky Quartz sits at 7 on the Mohs scale, harder than a steel blade, so it handles daily carry and a quick rinse without fuss. Keep chemical cleaners away from it; they can etch the surface.
