These are A-grade Smoky Quartz raw crystal points from Minas Gerais, Brazil, sold by the piece or by the pound. Each point is a naturally terminated quartz crystal whose brown tint comes from ground radiation acting on trace aluminum. Pieces run 1-2 inches at Mohs 7, naturally colored, never artificially irradiated. A favorite grounding stone for desks.
Smoky quartz gets its color from natural gamma radiation exposure over geologic time, working on trace aluminum inside the crystal. The result is a warm brown-to-gray tone that can range from a faint tea color to deep chocolate.
Minas Gerais is a major natural source. Hand-selected through our co-op partner.
Smoky quartz is traditionally associated with grounding, protection, and the quiet work of transmuting heavy feelings into something more usable. Many people keep a piece by the door or at the desk, or carry one when they want to feel rooted in their own body.

Smoky Quartz sits at 7 on the Mohs scale, harder than a steel blade, so it handles daily carry and a quick rinse without fuss. Keep chemical cleaners away from it; they can etch the surface.

Grades reflect visual quality within a batch. A is standard, with typical inclusions. AA shows stronger color, cleaner surfaces and tighter sizing. AAA is the top 10 to 15 percent of a batch. Every lot is inspected and graded by our team in Rockville, Maryland, not taken on the supplier’s word.
