About This Smoky Quartz

Smoky quartz is transparent brown-to-gray quartz, the color coming from natural irradiation deep in the earth. Good pieces feel cool and heavy in the hand, and the darker smoky points almost look like they're holding shadow.

Our raw pieces are sourced from Minas Gerais, Brazil. Worth knowing: a lot of the smoky quartz on the market is irradiated. What we carry is natural and untreated.

Traditionally Used For

Those who work with smoky quartz often turn to it for staying connected to your body and the moment, a sense of groundedness when things feel uncertain, and quiet, steady calm. It's traditionally linked to the root chakra. If that resonates, set one on the floor near where you sit to read or work. How you use it is up to you.

These are traditional associations drawn from historical practice. This stone is not a substitute for medical or mental health care.

Care and Use

Sensitivity Low

Smoky Quartz sits at 7 on the Mohs scale, harder than a steel blade, so it handles daily carry and a quick rinse without fuss. Keep chemical cleaners away from it; they can etch the surface.
