These are AA-grade Smoky Quartz tumbled stones from Vakinankaratra, Madagascar, sold by the piece or by the pound. Smoky quartz is quartz turned brown to gray by natural irradiation acting on trace aluminum in the lattice. Each piece runs 1-1.50 inches at Mohs 7, sourced through a community partnership. A favorite grounding stone for entryways.
Smoky quartz is transparent brown-to-gray quartz, the color coming from natural irradiation deep in the earth. Good pieces feel cool and heavy in the hand, and the darker smoky points almost look like they're holding shadow.
Hand-selected from Vakinankaratra, Madagascar. Worth knowing: a lot of the smoky quartz on the market is irradiated. What we carry is natural and untreated.
Smoky quartz has long been used in practices around staying connected to your body and the moment, a sense of groundedness when things feel uncertain, and quiet, steady calm. Smoky Quartz sits at 7 on the Mohs scale, harder than a steel blade, so it handles daily carry and a quick rinse without fuss. Keep chemical cleaners away from it; they can etch the surface.
