This is a natural clear quartz candle holder from Minas Gerais, Brazil, cut from a quartz cluster with a well drilled for a standard tea light. It runs 5 to 6 inches long, 3.5 to 4.5 wide, 1.5 to 2.5 tall, weighs 2 to 4 pounds, Mohs 7. The base is cut flat so it sits level, the terminations left natural.
Clear quartz is silicon dioxide in its plainest and most useful form, grown in six-sided prisms that run from water-clear to milky white. Cut into a candle holder, the flat base steadies the piece while the terminations along the top and edges are left exactly as they formed.
These come from a cooperative in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Each is cut from its own section of cluster, so clarity, point count, and outline all differ.
The reason quartz works well here is simple physics. A tea light set into the well throws light sideways through the crystal, so the whole piece lifts rather than just the flame.
