About This Clear Quartz

Clear Quartz is part of the Quartz family, with a trigonal (hexagonal family) crystal structure and a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale. It's been valued since prehistory; ancient Greek writers used the word "kristallos" to describe it, believing it was ice frozen so deeply it could never thaw.

It remains one of the most widely used crystals across cultures and traditions, valued for its clarity and versatility. Small clusters form when silica-rich fluids cool inside protected pockets, letting multiple crystals grow side by side on a common matrix.

Market note: the word "crystal" sometimes gets used for cut glass. Real quartz scratches glass and has no internal bubbles.

Traditionally Used For

Clear Quartz is traditionally associated with cleansing, meditation, manifestation, and clarity. Long held to support mental focus and the resetting of stale energy in a space.

Many people work with this stone for amplifying intention, holding space during meditation, or pairing alongside other crystals to support their work. Set one on your desk or beside your bed when you want a steady, quiet presence.

These are traditional associations drawn from historical practice. This stone is not a substitute for medical or mental health care.

Questions Before You Buy

Is this real clear quartz, and is it heated, dyed or treated?

Natural clear quartz from Minas Gerais, Brazil. No coatings and no dyes. This is natural quartz. Aura quartz, which has a metallic sheen, is a coated product and a different thing entirely.

Will I get the exact pieces in the photos?

You'll receive pieces from the same batch photographed, weighed to the amount you choose. Every piece passes our quality control and meets or exceeds what you see in the photos. Single specimens are listed separately and say so.

What size are the pieces, and how many are in a pound?

Each piece measures 1 to 2 inches on its longest side and weighs 5 to 20 grams. About 20 to 32 pieces per pound at this size, and each option shows its piece count.

What does AA grade mean?

Grade AA. Good clarity with natural inclusions and solid terminations for a piece this size. Grades reflect visual quality within a batch. A is standard, with typical inclusions. AA shows stronger color, cleaner surfaces and tighter sizing. AAA is the top 10 to 15 percent of a batch. Every lot is inspected and graded by our team in Rockville, Maryland, not taken on the supplier’s word.

Where does it come from, and how do you know?

Minas Gerais, Brazil. The region is the best known source of clear quartz clusters in the world. It came to us through a community partnership, one of the sourcing models we publish and stand behind.
