Where does this dioptase come from?

Republic of the Congo, near Mindouli. This region has produced fine specimens since the early twentieth century. We source through small-scale specimen channels rather than industrial mining.

Is dioptase ever treated?

No. The color is natural and stable under normal conditions. Some specimens are cleaned with mild acid to remove host-rock staining, but the crystal itself is not treated.

How fragile is dioptase?

Moderately fragile. The hardness is 5, lower than quartz, and the cleavage is perfect. Handle with care, since sharp impact will chip it, and ultrasonic cleaning will damage it.

What is dioptase traditionally associated with?

Heart-centered practice, emotional renewal, and a quiet kind of compassion. The deep green color is part of why it's commonly tied to heart-chakra work.

What does a crystal grade (A, AA, or AAA) actually mean?

Crystal grades reflect visual quality within a single batch. Grade A is standard quality with typical inclusions. Grade AA shows stronger color saturation, cleaner surface, and tighter sizing. Grade AAA represents the top 10 to 15 percent of any batch: exceptional clarity, consistent color, and minimal surface variation.
