This is an AA-grade Dioptase specimen from Renéville, Republic of the Congo. Dioptase crystallizes on matrix in emerald-to-teal prisms and cleaves perfectly, so it remains a display mineral. It measures 1.49" L x 1.33" W x 0.66" H at Mohs 5, completely natural and untreated. A favorite healing piece for collectors.
Dioptase is a rare copper cyclosilicate mineral best known for its extraordinary emerald-to-teal green color, produced by copper in its crystal structure. With a Mohs hardness of 5, it forms as well-defined hexagonal prismatic crystals, typically in oxidized zones of copper ore deposits. Despite its gemstone-quality color saturation, Dioptase is far too soft and brittle for use in jewelry, keeping it almost exclusively in the collector mineral market. Renéville in the Republic of the Congo is one of the world's premier Dioptase localities, producing specimens with exceptional color depth and crystal clarity that are sought globally by serious mineral collectors.
