About This Selenite

Selenite is a crystalline form of gypsum, laid down where ancient salt water evaporated and left soft fibrous beds behind. It is named after Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon, for the way light travels along the fiber.

This piece is raw. The flat plate shape is how the crystal bed naturally splits along its fiber, not a cut.

It comes from New Mexico, USA, which sits over one of the major North American gypsum deposits. It is soft at Mohs 2, so handle it gently, keep it dry, and store it away from harder stones.

Traditionally Used For

Selenite is traditionally worked with for cleansing and for clearing a space rather than for a specific outcome. It is linked to the crown chakra, and the association leans toward openness and quiet rather than intensity.

If that resonates, it is usually treated as a fixture of a room or an altar rather than a stone you carry.

These are traditional associations drawn from historical practice. This stone is not a substitute for medical or mental health care.

Sensitivity Very High

Selenite sits at 2 on the Mohs scale, among the softest stones we carry, so handle it gently and keep it dry. Skip saltwater; it etches the surface.
