About This Shungite

Shungite is matte black, carbon-rich, and heavier than it looks. Russian in origin, it's been used as a water filter and a talisman for centuries. Elite shungite has a silvery sheen, regular shungite is more matte.

Our polished crystals & decor are sourced from Republic of Karélia, Russia.

At 2 on the Mohs scale, it's on the softer end. Keep it away from water and store it separately from harder pieces.

Natural shungite from Republic of Karélia, Russia. Polished shungite isn't heated, dyed, or color-treated. It's cut from rough and tumbled or buffed to a soft sheen. The color comes from the natural carbon content.

Our shungite is mined in Karelia, Russia, near Lake Onega. That's the only meaningful commercial deposit in the world, so any genuine shungite traces back to this region. It came to us through a direct source, one of the sourcing models we publish and stand behind.
