What's the difference between square and rectangular slabs?

Square slabs are cut for symmetry on a single face. Rectangular slabs are sized for a longer footprint. Functionally, both work as flat bases for displays or near devices.

How thick are these slabs?

Typically 1 to 2 cm thick. Each piece is hand-finished, so small variations exist between slabs.

Is this polished or raw?

The top face is polished to a satin matte. Sides are ground smooth but may show a slightly different finish. No coating or sealant.

Where does the shungite come from?

Karelia in northwestern Russia. Mining in this area dates back to the late 1700s. Specimens reaching us now come from active mines near Zazhoginskoye.

How are slabs commonly used?

Most often as a placement base. Under a router, on a desk, beneath other crystals during grid work. Less ceremonial, more practical.

What does a crystal grade (A, AA, or AAA) actually mean?

Crystal grades reflect visual quality within a single batch. Grade A is standard quality with typical inclusions. Grade AA shows stronger color saturation, cleaner surface, and tighter sizing. Grade AAA represents the top 10 to 15 percent of any batch: exceptional clarity, consistent color, and minimal surface variation. For bulk listings sold by weight or piece count, you receive pieces from the same batch shown in the photos. Each piece is hand-selected at the time of packing. For unique specimens listed individually, you receive the exact piece photographed. The listing will specify which applies.
