These are regular-grade Type III Shungite polished square slabs from the Republic of Karelia, Russia. Shungite is a non-crystalline carbon-rich rock nearly unique to Karelia, matte black throughout. Each slab measures about 4.00 x 4.00 x 0.50 inches at Mohs 2, fully natural and untreated. A favorite grounding stone for desks.
Shungite is matte black, carbon-rich, and heavier than it looks. Russian in origin, it's been used as a water filter and a talisman for centuries. Elite shungite has a silvery sheen, regular shungite is more matte.
Sourced directly from Republic of Karélia, Russia. At 2 on the Mohs scale, it's on the softer end. Keep it away from water and store it separately from harder pieces.
