Synthetic Turquoise is lab-grown / composite imitation. In the hand, it rates 2.5 to 5 on the Mohs scale, and it runs uniform sky blue and teal with painted-on black webbing. Very affordable; worthless as gem turquoise. The Gilson lab that conquered opal also built turquoise, but chemists note it contains no actual turquoise mineral, making it technically an imitation.

Synthetic Turquoise carries the formula Varies, ceramic micro-spheres, dyed resin, or turquoise powder in epoxy. It belongs to the none (massive composite) system. Its listing category is lab-grown / composite imitation.

It sits at 2.5 to 5 on the Mohs scale. The surface reads waxy to dull plastic. Light behaviour is opaque. Specific gravity runs 1.6 to 2.7. The streak is white to pale blue. It breaks with granular to conchoidal fracture.
