These are A-grade Smoky Quartz crystal chips from Mashonaland East, Zimbabwe, sold by the piece or by the pound. Chips are small polished fragments of translucent brown quartz, shaded by natural irradiation underground. Each chip runs 0.25-0.50 inches at Mohs 7, and this lot is untreated. A favorite grounding stone for desks and crystal grids.
Smoky Quartz is a gray to brown variety of quartz within the Silicates family.
Sourced through a community partnership in Mashonaland East, Zimbabwe.
Used as a grounding and protective stone across many cultures; Scottish Highlanders set it in the handles of ceremonial daggers, and it has been found in ancient burial sites across Europe.
In the tradition, Smoky Quartz shows up most often around grounding, clearing mental heaviness, and protection during overwhelming periods. It's traditionally linked to the Root and Sacral chakras. Smoky Quartz sits at 7 on the Mohs scale, harder than a steel blade, so it handles daily carry and a quick rinse without fuss. The one thing that hurts it is sunlight: months in a bright window will fade the color, and it does not come back.
