This is an AA-grade Lepidolite cluster specimen from Minas Gerais, Brazil. Lepidolite is a lithium-bearing mica, its lilac-to-pink color coming from manganese, with a soft pearly shimmer across its plates. This piece measures 3.58 x 1.87 x 1.75 inches at Mohs 2.5-3, sourced through a community partnership. A favorite stress relief stone for bedside tables.
Lepidolite has a lavender-gray shimmer that comes from its layered mica structure. Hold one up to the light and you'll see it flash, almost like cracked ice. It's one of the softer stones we carry, which means you treat it gently.
Our specimens are sourced from Minas Gerais, Brazil. Worth knowing: a lot of the lepidolite on the market is stabilized. What we carry is natural and untreated.
At 2.5-3 on the Mohs scale, it's on the softer end. Keep it away from water and store it separately from harder pieces.
The name comes from Greek 'lepidos' meaning scale, referring to its scaly, micaceous texture.
