This is an AAA-grade selenite raw crystal standing slab from New Mexico, USA. Selenite is fibrous gypsum, and this piece is cut thick enough to show the internal fiber structure when backlit. The exact piece pictured measures 6.18" L x 1.51" W x 4.53" H at Mohs 2, fully natural and untreated. A favorite cleansing stone for mantels.
Selenite is a crystalline form of gypsum, laid down where ancient salt water evaporated and left soft fibrous beds behind. It is named after Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon, for the way light travels along the fiber.
This piece is raw, with only the base cut flat so it stands on its own. No stand needed and none included. It is cut thicker than most slabs, which is what lets the fiber read as depth rather than as a surface.
It comes from New Mexico, USA, which sits over one of the major North American gypsum deposits.
