About This Smoky Quartz

Smoky quartz is transparent brown-to-gray quartz, the color coming from natural irradiation deep in the earth. Good pieces feel cool and heavy in the hand, and the darker smoky points almost look like they're holding shadow.

We bring these hearts in from Minas Gerais, Brazil. Worth knowing: a lot of the smoky quartz on the market is irradiated. What we carry is natural and untreated.

Traditionally Used For

Smoky quartz is traditionally a stone for staying connected to your body and the moment, a sense of groundedness when things feel uncertain, and quiet, steady calm. It's traditionally linked to the root chakra. If that resonates, hold one in your non-dominant hand for a few breaths when things feel shaky. Let it become part of your own quiet routine.

These are traditional associations drawn from historical practice. This stone is not a substitute for medical or mental health care.

Care and Use

Sensitivity Low

Smoky Quartz sits at 7 on the Mohs scale, harder than a steel blade, so it handles daily carry and a quick rinse without fuss. Keep chemical cleaners away from it; they can etch the surface.
