Cubic Zirconia is synthetic oxide, ZrO₂ (stabilized). In the hand, it rates 8 to 8.5 on the Mohs scale, and it runs colorless and any color (doped). What it is

Cubic Zirconia carries the formula ZrO₂ (stabilized). It belongs to the isometric system. Its listing category is synthetic oxide.

It sits at 8 to 8.5 on the Mohs scale. The surface reads adamantine. Light behaviour is transparent. Specific gravity runs 5.6 to 6.0. The streak is white. It breaks with conchoidal fracture.

How to live with it

Care & handling.

At 8 to 8.5 on the Mohs scale it stands up to everyday wear. It will still chip on a hard knock, so treat edges and points with respect.

It breaks with conchoidal fracture, which is worth knowing before you set it or drop it.

Skip the ultrasonic. Lukewarm water, mild soap and a soft cloth handle routine cleaning without risk.
