These are regular-grade (Type III) Shungite tumbled stones from the Republic of Karelia, Russia, sold by the piece or by the pound. Matte black and unusually light in the hand, shungite is a rock built largely of non-crystalline carbon. Each piece runs 1.50-2.50 inches at Mohs 2, fully natural and untreated. A favorite protection stone for entryways.
Shungite is matte black, carbon-rich, and heavier than it looks. Russian in origin, it's been used as a water filter and a talisman for centuries. Elite shungite has a silvery sheen, regular shungite is more matte.
This piece comes from Republic of Karélia, Russia. This is a softer mineral (2 Mohs). Dry storage, gentle handling, and don't let it knock around with quartz or tourmaline.
Black color and ancient origin.
In the tradition, shungite shows up most often around a sense of groundedness when things feel uncertain, cleansing, and staying connected to your body and the moment. It's traditionally linked to the root chakra. If that resonates, hold one in your non-dominant hand for a few breaths when things feel shaky. Trust what feels useful and leave the rest.
These are traditional associations drawn from historical practice. This stone is not a substitute for medical or mental health care.
Offered as a starting point for your own practice.
Shungite sits at 2 on the Mohs scale, among the softest stones we carry, so handle it gently and keep it dry. Keep chemical cleaners away from it; they can etch the surface.
Natural shungite from Republic of Karélia, Russia. Untreated. Karelian shungite is the only verified commercial source globally.

Each piece measures 1.5 to 2.5 inches on its longest side and weighs 20 to 50 grams. About 12 to 20 pieces per pound at this size, and each option shows its piece count.
This batch is from Republic of Karélia, Russia. It came to us through a direct source, one of the sourcing models we publish and stand behind.
Every lot is inspected and graded by our expert team before it is listed, not taken on the supplier's word. Pieces that miss the mark never reach the shop.
How We GradeWe work directly with the mine or workshop, with no intermediaries in between. The relationship is personal, pricing is transparent, and we can speak to each batch. We say what we know and where our tracing stops.
Our Sourcing StandardsEverything we sell is natural in origin: never synthetic, never dyed, never coated. Where a stone has been heated, irradiated or stabilized, which is common in the trade for some species, we say so on the listing. If a piece is not as described, return it within 90 days of delivery.
