Lodolite
Lodolite is silicate (included quartz). In the hand, it rates 7 on the Mohs scale, and it runs clear with green and cream. Water-clear quartz enclosing miniature multicolored 'gardens', mossy greens, creamy plumes, and rusty clouds layered in 3D scenes. Minas Gerais, Brazil.
The geology.
Lodolite carries the formula SiO₂ + chlorite/feldspar/iron oxide inclusions. It belongs to the trigonal system. The trade files it under silicate (included quartz).
It sits at 7 on the Mohs scale. The surface reads vitreous. Light behaviour is transparent with included 'scenes'. Specific gravity runs 2.65. The streak is white. It breaks with conchoidal fracture, no cleavage.

Common cuts are spheres, freeforms, points or pendants.
The origins.
Minas Gerais, Brazil.
On value, the database notes: mid-range; dramatic 'landscape' spheres are prized.
Traditional associations.
In energy work traditions, associated with inner pathing and perspective.
Included for completeness. Tradition is worth knowing about, and it is worth keeping separate from the mineralogy.
Spotting the real thing.

| Looks like | How to tell them apart |
|---|---|
| Moss agate | Moss agate is translucent chalcedony throughout; lodolite is transparent crystal with discrete inner landscapes |
| Chlorite quartz | Chlorite quartz is specifically green; lodolite mixes multiple inclusion colors |
| Resin with plants | Resin is warm and soft with real plant matter; lodolite scenes are mineral |
At-home tests.
These checks cost nothing. Daylight, a 10x loupe and a little patience are the whole kit for lodolite.
| Test | What you should see |
|---|---|
| Scratch check | Scratches glass (Mohs 7) |
| By eye | Scenes have depth, rotate to see layers shift |
| By weight | Cold dense quartz feel |
Destructive tests belong to a gemologist, not a kitchen table. If a piece matters to you, pay for an appraisal before you take a file to it.
Care & handling.
At 7 on the Mohs scale it stands up to everyday wear. It will still chip on a hard knock, so treat edges and points with respect.
It breaks with conchoidal fracture, no cleavage, which is worth knowing before you set it or drop it.
Clean it by hand, dry it properly, and keep it away from ultrasonic cleaners and hot steam.

The physical record
The formula on record is SiO₂ + chlorite/feldspar/iron oxide inclusions. Crystal system: Trigonal. Specific gravity: 2.65. Streak: White. Cleavage and fracture: Conchoidal fracture, no cleavage.
How it reaches the market
Minas Gerais, Brazil.
What it gets confused with
Moss agate: Moss agate is translucent chalcedony throughout; lodolite is transparent crystal with discrete inner landscapes. Chlorite quartz: Chlorite quartz is specifically green; lodolite mixes multiple inclusion colors. Resin with plants: Resin is warm and soft with real plant matter; lodolite scenes are mineral.
What it is worth
Mid-range; dramatic 'landscape' spheres are prized.
One more thing
Each 'garden' is a frozen moment of muddy mineral water invading a growing crystal, no two scenes repeat.
An education-first guide.
We do not stock lodolite. Writing it up regardless is the point of a reference library.
