Spirit Quartz
Spirit Quartz is silicate (quartz variety), SiO₂. In the hand, it rates 7 on the Mohs scale, and it runs lilac amethyst and white. A central quartz point completely furred with hundreds of tiny sparkling druzy crystals, a cactus made of crystal. Almost exclusively Magaliesberg/Boekenhouthoek area, Mpumalanga, South Africa.
The geology.
Spirit Quartz carries the formula SiO₂. It belongs to the trigonal system. On paper it is silicate (quartz variety).
It sits at 7 on the Mohs scale. The surface reads vitreous, druzy sparkle. Light behaviour is translucent. Specific gravity runs 2.65. The streak is white. It breaks with conchoidal fracture.
