Chabazite
Chabazite is tectosilicate (zeolite), CaAl₂Si₄O₁₂·6H₂O. In the hand, it rates 4 to 5 on the Mohs scale, and it runs colorless and white. Tiny glassy 'cubes' (actually slightly skewed rhombohedra) carpeting volcanic rock cavities, a zeolite that fakes being cubic. Basalt cavities: Nova Scotia (Canada), Oregon (USA), Iceland, Deccan Traps (India).
The geology.
Chabazite carries the formula CaAl₂Si₄O₁₂·6H₂O. It belongs to the trigonal (pseudo-cubic rhombohedra) system. On paper it is tectosilicate (zeolite).
It sits at 4 to 5 on the Mohs scale. The surface reads vitreous. Light behavior is transparent to translucent. Specific gravity runs 2.05 to 2.15. The streak is white. It breaks with indistinct cleavage; uneven fracture.
